Tenths and hundredths of seconds never mean so much as they do during the Olympics.

Go Green!
Check this out! I was watching the Vancouver Olympics, minding my own business, when, all of a sudden, this commercial comes on! I saw the Sun Chips, and I said, "Oh! I love Sun Chips!" After a little while, I said, "... Wait, is it biodegradable? Oh my goodness! They're making biodegradable bags! That makes me so happy!" Enjoy. Save the whales. Peace.

Where is our world?
Here is the first line of a recent Facebook advertisement:
"See what your baby would look like without the mess." ExcUse me?!? MESS?!? Ugh, I am so disgusted! I find this offensive, rude, assuming, and abhorrent. As if I would have sex just to see what my baby would look like? As if the process of fertilization, pregnancy, and birth can be labeled simply and grotesquely as a "mess?!" And, as if I would want to see what my baby would look like if a celebrity were the father!? Oh my gosh! How low! How mean! Despicable! Demeaning! Infuriating!
Why is this advertising website using this phrase to draw in consumers? Because it works? I hate that. Disgusting.

Ecstacy and some of the forward side of fashion
Today I had one of my most thrilling moments of the school year. I was with the third graders at my internship, reading one of the kid books about the Titanic. One of the boys came up to me and asked what I was reading. "Have you read this book?" I said. He nodded, but I was pretty sure he hadn't read the book. I ask him, "Do you know about the Titanic."
"No. Can you read it to me?"
It's hard for me to describe the surge of joy that ran through my system. I was so very excited to hear those words to to be able to read to him. He spoke with innocent, unassuming curiosity. He wanted me to read to him! I was ecstatic. I read to him and shortly another boy came to listen, then another. I read for only about a minute before it was time for them to begin their test. I've been happy lately, yes, but this was a very different kind of happiness, and it shot me through the roof.
---
I was checking up on a fashion website and saw these hideous "armadillo shoes." They've already hit the runways, and Lady Gaga wore a pair in her "Bad Romance" music video. They make me gag.
I was trying to find a good picture of these guys, and, during my search, I found some other crazy shoes!
Something for those of you who like giraffes.
These "invisible shoes" are concept shoes designed by Andreia Chaves.
"No. Can you read it to me?"

Small updates, nothing big.
This week gave me lots of stress, especially around Tuesday. Low and behold, it's gone away for the most part thanks to dance rehearsals, chats with friends, the soundtrack of the Fountain, and, most importantly, God's grace. This night, though, I had two cups of coffee. I began to feel a little jittery, and that's never fun. Coffee hadn't done this to me in a while, but here it was. Also, as silly as this sounds, Facebook's new layout caught me off guard. For a few seconds, I felt nervous. That's so strange. But don't worry! I'm pressing on, taking everything one step at a time, and I think I'll even be able to spend the time at a Super Bowl part on Sunday!
I never knew how much I didn't know about the Pro-life stance. We had a "coffee and conversation" session with a very knowledgeable representative from the Students for Life organization tonight. I want to be passionate about this issue like my friends who are involved with this on campus are. My freshman year, Bryan College made me aware of the evils of human trafficking. I wrote a persuasive paper for a class on the topic, researched it until I almost became sick, and attended all of the Scourge conferences offered. I signed petitions and blasted links across facebook. I know I'm no IJM worker, but I was doing something. I would like to do something for the unborn children, too.
On a completely different note, my plants are well! They look so much better than they did a few weeks ago. Sil is perky and the others are fine, too. It makes me happy that my plants are happy.
Guess what! My highest goal of my entire college experience has been fulfilled! I have been quoted in the quotes section of our campus paper! Seriously, I've wanted to get in that section for almost four years. And now, there I am! Hooray!

Culture bit for the day
This is my favorite soundtrack right now. The movie is The Fountain, a 2006 film directed Darren Aronofsky, starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz.
Score by Clint Mansell. Click here for some samples, but there's so much amazing music than that. From Wikipedia: "Mansell won the Chicago Film Critics Association's 2006 award for Best Original Score, and he also won the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Soundtrack of the Year and Public Choice Award. He was also nominated for the 2006 Golden Globe Award for the Best Original Score for The Fountain, but lost to Alexandre Desplat for The Painted Veil. Mansell also lost a nomination for the 2006 BFCA Critics' Choice Award for Best Composer to Phillip Glass for The Illusionist."
My favorite track is "Death is the Road to Awe." You can listen to the whole piece here on YouTube.
