Old Factory Candles Review + Giveaway

I've had the opportunity to try out some new candles, and I want to share my experience with you!  Old Factory Candles advertises their candles as "true to scent," which had me super excited, especially when I saw which scents they sell.  I've never heard of a candle that smells like chai tea, and even if the candles weren't true to scent as advertised, I was definitely willing to bite at the chance to test them out.  And so, when it was time to decide, I chose the Coffee Shop scent trio, which includes a coffee bean, hazelnut, and a chai tea candle, all in adorable little 2 oz. bottles.

Caleb and I took the time to dig into the charming packaging last night.  We opened each candle and tested the smell.  Hazelnut seemed true to form, and chai tea, too, but the coffee candle didn't have much of a scent at all.  Caleb said, "It smells like burnt coffee."  I couldn't smell much of it, but there were hints of coffee somewhere in that candle.

I asked Caleb to light a different one in each room and close to door so we could see how the candles performed.  I also wanted the candles' locations to be a secret so I could see if I could identify them by their scent.  After 50 minutes, we took a candle tour of the house.

Old Factory Candle Review Chai Tea Scented Candle

The first room we walked into was the smallest.  As soon as the door was opened, we were hit with the thick, sweet scent of hazelnut lattes.  It reminded me exactly of the saccharine hazelnut drinks sold at gas stations, actually.  So, yes, the scent was very strong and unmistakeable, but it was sweeter than I would have hoped for.  (Gosh, I must be getting old if I'm complaining about things being too sweet!)

In the next room, we couldn't smell anything.  I moved closer and closer to the candle, and still nothing.  I got right up to the candle.  Too close, actually.  The heat caught my nose and made me yelp and jump back, but not before catching a shred of what I thought was coffee.  It was the coffee candle all right, but gosh there was hardly any scent to it, even when it was burning.

I knew the chai candle was next, and when I walked into the final room, I was disappointed that the scent wasn't thick like with the hazelnut candle.  Then again, this room was the largest, so maybe the smell was just spread out.  I could smell it as I got closer to the candle, though.  Cinnamon, sweetness, and candle.  This one was our favorite.  It wasn't strong, but I'd rather have light good lighter than saccharine strong smells .

I admit the candles didn't live up to my expectations.  They are very pretty, and they're packaged nicely, but the coffee candle scent was so faint.  "True to scent" is a bold claim, and I think it should only be made if it's backed up 100% with a product that delivers, especially when the trio sells for $25.  As a regular set of candles, though, they are fun and cute.  And, you can't go wrong with small, soft candle lights.  I'd be willing to try out some of their other scent trios.  You can see them all below.  The next ones I would want to try are Fresh & Clean, Spa Day, and either Man Cave or (not gonna lie) 50 Shades.  I love the smell of leather.

Which would you choose?  You can purchase them here.
